TBSDF Outreach in Tudun Wada Expands Access to Women’s Health Services
The Balyun Sustainable Development Foundation (TBSDF) is expanding access to health services for women in local communities. In partnership with Kano Wellness Plus, the Foundation completed its first community health outreach in Tudun Wada, Kano State. Held between 30-31 August 2025, the initiative provided free health services and community education to nearly 400 women, helping to reduce barriers to care and promote healthier lives.

The outreach focused on three major conditions that pose high risks in local communities: malaria, hypertension, and diabetes. Pregnant women formed a critical subset of participants, as malaria during pregnancy poses life-threatening risks to both mothers and infants. Beneficiaries received free screenings, one-on-one consultations, treatment where necessary, and referrals for long-term care.
Health education sessions and the distribution of information materials reinforced practical steps on prevention, early detection, and lifestyle changes. For many participants, it was their first opportunity to access such comprehensive services. Aisha, a 42-year-old mother of four, explained: “Today I finally understood what has been affecting me. I was tested, treated, and given clear advice that gives me peace of mind and hope for my children’s future.” Another participant, an elderly woman diagnosed with high blood pressure, remarked: “This may have saved my life. I would never have known otherwise.”
The programme was supported by local leaders, media houses, and women’s associations, with state government officials also in attendance to underscore the importance of community health initiatives. This collaboration ensured strong turnout, fostered community trust, and helped embed knowledge that will continue to benefit families and communities.
The initiative achieved its objectives and laid the foundation for sustained progress. By improving women’s health and equipping them with knowledge, the outreach strengthened families, empowered caregivers, and built stronger linkages to local health services.
This outreach is part of TBSDF’s broader mission to advance sustainable development by advancing human capital and reducing multidimensional poverty. Building on the success in Tudun Wada, TBSDF plans to expand future initiatives to reach more communities and contribute to Nigeria’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals
